By fusion, by taking apart and joining the nuclei of light elements into heavier ones, on the sun mostly hydrogen to helium. Part of the mass is lost as energy, as light and heat. Other stars burn the same or other gases -- find the bright red star Betelgeuse at Orion's shoulder. That red giant "sun" is fusing helium into still heavier elements, such as carbon and oxygen.

Helium was discovered on the Sun (as spectrograph lines) before it was found on Earth.

did you recognize that the solar certainly shines 24 hours an afternoon, seven days a week? nighttime occurs by way of fact the Earth turns you removed from the solar, so which you will no longer see it. We call that "nighttime". Then, because it turns you returned in the direction of the solar, you will discover it returned, and we call that "day".

Because of the nuclear fusion going on at it's core. Our sun is busy converting hydrogen into helium.

Because a heck of a lot of nuclear fuel is being burned on that giant plasma ball every second. It consumes about 600 million tons of hydrogen each second, or the mass of the Earth every 70,000 years.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed but can be converted to some other form of energy. The sun has to do some work and hence converting some other energy into light energy.

it is essentially a giant nuclear explosion , only it burns very long. it shines because the process in which it makes heat energy also makes light energy. fusion/ fission
