I think Yahoo should punish whoever reports a perfectly good question by taking away some of their points. And, if we get thumbs down, Yahoo ought to notify us who gave it. Maybe it would stop some of the crap on here.

I would loosen up on what the guidelines are. If something is abusive/vulgar/insulting it should be removed, otherwise we should be able to ask/answer the questions we want to. If someone just doesn't like a question they should move on. There is the same violation for 'vile' posts as one that is 'chatting' for instance, that makes no sense. I also see no need for a thumbs down, people should be able to respectfully disagree with another without getting a thumbs down.
I don't think they ever set a certain number of violations in order to lose your account here. They base it on several different factors from other questions I've read.

I would change the Thumbs up or down to a scale from one to five... as in when you chose the best answer for your question. I think a thumbs down would/could be somewhat offensive to a person, however, I don't hesitate to give one to an answer I feel is inappropriate. It is after all a matter of opinion. I also give many thumbs up!!! Most answers are pretty darned good! And... I do star interesting questions!
I have no idea about violations... I really don't pay attention to points... so I have no idea if mine have fluctuated at all.
I do get very annoyed at the trolls, they are little mutants out to wreak havoc among us... and need a good sound spanking!

The troll situation seems to be of major issue. As far as comments are concerned, there's such a vast range of likes and dislikes especially in the humor category -- perhaps a short comment section should be added for responders to be able to mention dissatisfaction to other answers (one-liners only with no penalty if proper language and respect is inclusive). It is really pretty difficult to ride herd on an open public forum and still maintain a "free form" media for all to enjoy. Live and Let live.

They need to crack down on the trolls and find a way to keep them from reopening accounts and/or having multiple accounts.
They need to evaluate the reports coming in on Seniors more carefully and see how trivial most of the things are.....and instead of quick violations, maybe consider sending a warning of some sort. Most of us aren't in this to earn points, but it sure does sting to lose them because of the pettiness of others.
They should keep the thumbs up and do away with thumbs down completely. The only ones using it are trolls and people who for one reason or another have grudges against certain members. (As in Harley Lady's answer above...perfect example!)
Just my thoughts.

I only give thumbs down for Sick,Rude and Disgusting answers, but certainly not because I don't agree with someone, I would Not like to see this go, purely just for the reason that when you have to give thumbs down it reduces the nasty answerer to a minute box at the bottom of the page and then you don't have to tollerate seeing them again when you return to a good question for other peoples responses

I looked around and located that n e t v i b e s comes closest to giving yahoo homepage adventure. that's quite versatile and you will get carry of Yahoo information feeds. Its merely draw back is which you will not replace the font length that could make it very small style.

I'd 'loosen' it up a bit to allow real discussion forums....I don't really care for the 'groups' format and rather like clicking on a question herein and seeing everybody's comments on one 'board'....yet, we get violated if the 'question' doesn't conform to their guidelines.
I love discussion forums and just wish they'd widen the possibilities here.

if YAHOO were to bar ISP addresses of repeated offenders of being trolls, the porblems would dissappear from here. Let the trolls explain why the isp has been cut off! AND, it seems that rudeness rules here....I am sick to death of rude one liners that are written for a funny retort when they are not funny. Perhaps it is time that many users grew up!

We would like to see Yahoo implement real moderators who can sort out the trolls, offensive and abusive answers etc. Other sites have proper moderators.
