Thanks for askiing...mountains, rivers, snow, small city...there is public transport in town but I live out of town so I drive. Everything away from our city is pretty rural and far away. I was shocked at how big Alaska is once you get here, though I guess it was that big before I got here too! There is fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling, cross country and some down hill sking, snow shoeing, hiking, blueberry, huckleberry, raspberry, cranberry picking. We've just started getting box stores in the past few years. Locals are not happy, but the military bases are thrilled. It's pretty quite here, though an involved community and I do like that aspect a lot. We see the governor in the grocery and folks don't mind giving her a piece of their mind. It's great she listens. It really is a great place to live most times, scenic always.I'll load up some photos one of these days and share with all of you.

Small mountain town, stores close enough I guess, recreation centers around lakes, arts and tourism. Bus for Seniors, but I also drive. Rivers in the SE drought are very low, and feed those larger, that feed the river Atlanta needs. Fishing and hunting, yes. What I love is the closeness of the mountains, right on the near horizon, and how they live with colors in the four seasons.

I live in San Bernardino, CA, south of you.
We've just been rockin' and rollin' all day today, 2 earthquakes, one on each side of us.
Since I'm a city dweller, there's all the goodies you asked for. However, we have Lake Arrowhead directly up the mountain from us and Green Valley Lake, Lake Gregory and lots of places to fish, no hunting, but lots of recreation areas and camping spots.
Actually, I do love this life, but I'm not particularly fond of where I live. Going into a Senior Complex while I decide where I want to move to. Quite probably going to be out of California, I want clean air as we get all the smog from LA and sometimes it's hard to breathe. And with the big fires in 2003 and the ones this year, there are tons of particulates in the air that cause lung problems, though I'm blessed not to have any yet.
Took a look at your town the other day.......nice!

I live in the country. We have a convenient store 1/4 of a mile from our house. There is a YMCA about 3 miles from the house. No bus service here, we have to drive any where we want to go. There is no lakes close by, the closest one is about 40 miles from here. The river is about 2 1/2 miles from the house. We try to go fishing when we can. We don't go hunting either. I love it here cause we are in the country. There are pecan trees every where. We even have 6 here in our yard. So that means lots of shade in the summer and it still gets hot even in the shade.

It was a cool, sunny day and the sunset was lovely this evening. I live at the end of a red dirt road. We are out in the country, but only 10-15 minutes away from 2 small towns. We have to drive to get anywhere, there's a couple little gas stations nearby. There's a lake and lovely park with animals not to far away.
I love being able to see the sky at night. We have possums that come out at night and sometimes a racoon or deer. We have a lot of cedar trees and when my husband cut up a dead one this week the smell was wonderful. It's a nice place to live.

The descriptions of the places where you all live sound beautiful! In comparison we live in a concrete jungle! (UK).
Sapphire B....we love the sound of where you are and to all the others who have rivers, forests and mountains nearby....lucky you!! We live nearby a field that usually grows potatoes or rapeseed. We live in Yorkshire which has some nice places to visit but the places that are really countryside are too expensive as we have to rent. There's a canal that runs through our town but it is filthy dirty.
If we could choose where to live it wouldn't be in the UK lol. We have Estate Agents, Charity shops, foodstores, supermarkets and the powers that be want to build more...pubs, takeaways....chinese, indian, pizza, greek, we have pubs and a couple of nightclubs. The surrounding area is countryside and gloriously beautiful when the crops are growing....from a distance they look like a patchwork quilt. We do have some nice areas but as the saying goes "the grass is greener on the other side"

I live in a small rural town of 750, in the middle of a state forest reserve. One school, one church, one library, located in New England, in the U.S. I have three acres of land surrounded by stone wall. Our New England states are seeped in history and we're well known for "growing" rocks and stones- therefore stone walls are everywhere!
I live on a long dirt road that has four other neighbors scattered here and there. A small pond is within walking distance. Six miles away is a town of a few thousand that has a Walmart and various gas stations and other small businesses. Many natural resources. In the summer our little towns often have band concerts and similiar musical get- togethers.
About 20 minutes away is a quiet lake where I visit fairly often to walk with my dog, Jessie. I love to watch the Canada Geese as they raise their little one's each summer along the lake. You often see kijaks or a few small sailboats, but no motorboats. Periodically people fish there as well. Within the nine town region of where I live is a large reservoir that was created back in the 1930's by destroying and flooding out several towns. Although the reservoir provides drinking water for a major city in the state, and allows fishing and hiking, it is still a sore spot surrounded by a little sadness for the towns that no longer exist. Some of the residents of those former towns are still alive and gather together on a periodic basis to keep their memories alive.
I like the area because it's quiet and no one can ever build on the state property surrounding my land. Black bear and deer live in the forest surrounding me. We seem to all co-exist.
