I like to get my hands dirty and stay busy doing something; landscaping sounds like what I always used to think of as work. Working with people is quite different than that, and works a different part of me, my brain. I used to dread it when I was younger, but now I find that it's one really cool way to earn a paycheck and learn about people and business itself all at one time.

work is great in the right team, socialising going to the gym having a laff and going for business lunches, dealing with clients can be very draining and dealing with ordinary people can be very stressful. i know exactly what you mean when you say give me my cheque. people like the best job done for the cheapest price, but even then when the job is complete, they don't want to pay.

Ha, lampshade shop years ago, you wouldn't believe the number of shades of green there are, none of which matched naggy buggers curtains. Office now, fewer people, at least as customers, and bonus: no worms or slugs! Bit of a phobia, sorry.

Is there a client that wants to small talk or something? I would recommend you read How to Have Confidence and Power in Dealing With People. You need to brush up on your people skills....even if you don't like people....you need to start.

Work means bitchy gossip, constant talk about dieting and not eating cakes discussions, moaning, sighing, 2 faced spies, complaints, paperwork, constant ringing phones, lost patients, missed appointments, more work and less pay, children dying, upset parents, moody doctors...
Oh and the measly pay packet that I get at the end of it!

dealing with people (like waiters trying to get orders out of people or anything like that) is work, just a different kind. some people sit and talk on the phone all day; it's still work. changing yourself is work. i would say work is anything that requires application of attention and effort.

im a LNA and i love my job! i do not concider it work at all...i go to *work* and take care of people...elderly....who otherwise could not do it themselves...not the glamours of jobs but its fun and very rewarding. i beleive that if you have to call your job/career *work* than you need to find a diffrent profession because everyone should have a seice of pride when they are done at the end of a shift. no job should be *work* in other words!
