I think this is a totally appropriate way to ask a question. Sometimes a song 'speaks' to us, and when it does, the writer/singer has done exactly what they all try to do and rarely succeed at. Whether it's about happiness/joy or pain..the song means something to someone. Great question Red.
And there are times, yes, when I look inside I know there is blackness covering my heart. Like right now for example.

Oh Yeah..Black, beautiful, powerful and resilient. I don't know the song that someone referenced, but I know my heart.

Singing some Blue Oyster Cult...
"My heart is black...and my lips are cold...cities on flame....with rock n roll...three thousand guitars...they seem to cry...my ears will melt...and then my eyes...so let that girl, let that girl rock n roll...
...cities on flame now....with rock n roll..."
