I'm with "mango tree" here on this one.
People are going to talk anyway. They're going to say whatever they want, whether it's true or has any basis in reality or not. And this is especially true of your Boss/Managerial types who are *paid* to bully and harrass you until the last cow comes home. -_- To them, *nothing* you do is ever good enough, and *no* amount of bootlicking and sucking up is ever going to be enough for them.
Really. That's them. They're *paid* to constantly bully and nag and crack that whip over your back. They were *hired in the first place* because they're jerks and sociopaths and control freaks.
That's not us, and it's not me. ^_^ I know I tried. I know I busted my hump to be the first one in my family to get the bachelor's degree....only to find out that it didn't matter, that all the better jobs *dried up* in the meantime, and I was *still stuck* with the minimum-wage zero-perk slave labor that I had *earned the education* to avoid in the first place. I did the work, went half-crazy, went into debt....for nothing. For jobs that no longer exist in the US.
So yeah, I tried. ^_^ And I know your Have Mores are going to say I didn't try "hard enough", but hard enough *for them* is just sadistic and unreasonable.
Pity people don't get this, huh? ^_^ Thanks for your time.
