This means your RAM (Random Access Memory is low). Virtual Memory is stored on your RAM, and Physical Memory is stored on a Hard Drive.

If you press ctrl+alt+del, and click on the processes tab, you will see a list of all processes running on your computer and how much Virtual Memory each of them are using. Don't get confused because it is common that one application you are running will be composed of multiple processes. End whatever processes you don't need, and this will help to free up some Virtual Memory. If you are unsure of what the process does, just search Google for it beforehand.

If there are not many processes running, then you may need to buy additional RAM. These come in sticks, usually 512mb or 1024mb these days, at a cost of just over $100US each. For info on how to install these correctly, ask Google ;)

The more programs beside the operating system your computer is running the more the RAM will fill up until your computer starts to look for places to make copies of those programs in what is called virtual memory.
Virtual memory is a place on the hard drive where copies of ram are stored, and are swapped in and out of the RAM area for processes to take place in operating programs and its called a page file.

Programs can crash because your computer is suffering from low virtual memory. In this case you have to tell the computer to use the most space available…

Note: Only buy more ram if you cannot fix the problem... Check out the links above.

Increase your virtual memory:
Start > Setting > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Setting > Advanced > Virtual memory Change
You then change the size of your virtual memory and click set, you can max out to twice as much a you RAM size.

virtual memory is the hardrive space needed for windows to run smooth. when the memory gets low or their is little space left, the error comes up. remove some unwanted or un used programs. if this does not help, then u might need a second harddrive.

That means that you need to clear the hard drive of UN-needed junk. Also you can also get a bigger memory/ram.
