To stand up for your beliefs in the face of peer pressure.. We face this everyday, jokes in the work place that demean one group or another. IF just one person stands up for the minority being attacked, the joker folds quickly...here is one place that one voice CAN and does make a difference. One voice becomes two, two becomes four...etc ..this is the only way that racism, homophobia, and other injustices toward minorities will ever stop. We each can control what goes on about us. So do starting today. ! that is true heroism! Phil

To me, heroism the the attainment of excellence in all of the things that have been mentioned in the answers to this question.

And it doesn't necessarily mean that anybody else, except God, knows about it.

Heroism to me is when someone risks their own life to help save another from danger or death.
Two more Canadians died today in Afghanistan .They and their comrades in arms are heroes .

I think heroism is about doing the right thing, doing what needs to be done, despite fear or other obstacles.

Pressing on regardless.
Whether in the face of danger or the face of a lost child.

Heroes stumble but they keep getting up. I guess they are like 'weebles' they wobble but the don't fall down.

Doing that which you would normally not do...going outside of oneself and drawing on inner strengths and beliefs you didn't even realize you had, to help another person or animal in times of danger, stress or peril.
