Due to new cars, the catalytic converter keeps the exhaust air CLEAN!! It's no longer possible to sit in your garage and die. Even if you connected a hose straight from your exhaust to your window, it would probably not kill you. Just give you a headache. Your not looking for CO2.. The killer is CO(Carbon Monoxide) . Carbon Monoxide is much different then Carbon Dioxide. Carbon Dioxide if inhaled will put you into a panic because of the lack of oxygen and you will go into survival mode and search for air. Whereas with Carbon Monoxide, you cant smell it, you cant taste it, you don't even know you inhaling it. Your blood cells prefer CO 300x more then oxygen. So even if your inhaling a small amount of CO(like 1%), your blood cells will ignore the oxygen thus killing you. You will fall asleep very quickly, then die just as fast. It's painless. Theres a new way to do it now days, you get a grill with charcoal, light it and let it burn out a little. Then put it in your car and fall asleep. Game over! Anyways this is all educational.
