My 1990 Honda Accord will not start, and it makes a weird noise when I try. The lights, stereo, etc.. all work fine, but my car just wont start. It almost sounds like the battery is dead but its not. Could it be the starter? I would really appreciate some answers if you have any...

YES, I BELIVE IT IS THE STARTER. YOU NEED TO GET IT CHANGED IF THAT DOESN'T WORK BRING IT TO A MECHANIC.

Yes it could be starter, but before you get all excited, try using jumper cables from another car (be sure to hook cables up right, -- hook up 3, then "brush" 4th across termnal, - if it throws "fire" it is hooked up wrong). May make small spark (which is ok), this will tell you that one battery has more power stored up than the other! The lights can still all come on and "seem normaL", - if the battery is not dead, (but too "low" to throw the starter in to make it crank)! The "boosters"will increase power available, and will make the starter work -- if this is the problem! And of course make sure the battery terminals are clean and making good connections, some times they can make all kinds of wierd things happen when they are making "partial" connectuions, but not good enough to make the engine crank. Usually the lights all blink off as long as the key in start position, and then come on a little while after you let it back to "run " position. Reason for that is that the other stuff uses a small amount of current to operate (usally less than 5 amps), while the starter requires upwards of 150 amps to "crank"t. Sometimes it doesn't work that way though, - if it doesn't have enough power available (coming in ) to cause the starter solenoid to "click in", - it will just "sit there" and do nothing! It is an abnormal occourance, but does happen occasionally!!

it is not ordinary to declare definitavely with out extra element, what form of dirt are we speaking approximately? How deep? each and every of the suggestion i grants you is that somewhat an inner combustion engine isn't something better than an air pump. It needs 3 issues to function - air, gas, spark. The gas device could be closed, meaning no longer open to the ambience, so till you have been doing a sprint severe mudding, it extremely isn't the problem. verify the intake music from the air filter out decrease back to the throttle physique, if that's obvious, verify your inginition device. do away with the distributor cap -do no longer do away with the wires and mark it is alignment to the distributor - and verify for dirt or dirt. verify the spark plug wires for cracks or breaks. In low mild, have a pal crank the motor and seem interior the engine bay for electric powered arcs. that's recommended to get below the motor vehicle (top secured with jack AND jackstands!) and seem for breaks interior the fuels strains or kinks. finally verify the exhaust for blockages, this would definately keep the motor from working. you may attempt applying your fist or a rubber mallet to faucet on the exhaust and smash up an dirt they could be accumulated interior the muffler or pipe. good good fortune! btw- in spite of if that's popping over, it isn't the starter. you may make confident it isn't the alternator by applying leaping beginning the motor vehicle. as quickly as you get it working use a voltometer to envision the voltage from the valuable terminal of battery. in spite of if that's over 14 volts, it isn't the alternator. because of the fact which you're on a low funds, do throw money at factors till you're valuable it is going to help advance the situation.

Sounds like a starter issue to me. That is if the engine is not cranking. Worst case may be a flywheel problem. You should be able to tell when you pull the starter off. Just look at the teeth on the flywheel where the starter engaes it.

we need to know what kind of noise it is making. if the engine is cranking at a normal speed you may have a distributor problem , if all you hear is a load click when you turn the key, then you have a few possibilities. you could have a damaged starter motor, a seized engine or a bad battery to starter positive cable. there are other possibilities but we need to know what kind of noise you are hearing.

If the vehicle has never had the timing belt change it is a good chance that is the problem. Having said that, there are many things that could be wrong. Some of the solid state engine controls may have gone to sleep.. Your best bet is to get someone that is smart enough to check a few things.
