im 14 and haven't started my period yet, although for the past eight or nine days i've been getting a very light (in amount) but darkbrown sticky discharge. is this my period or spotting? or is this discharge? i thought it was my period so i told my mom six days ago that i got it becuase i thought that's what it was. i'm so confused. can somebody clarify it for me please...

When periods first start, they can be very light and very irregular. That very well may have been an official period. I would mark your calendar as to the start date and length, so as time goes on, you can try to predict when it will be coming next, so you can be prepared. I'd make sure you have some pads in your locker or school bag in case it sneaks up on you in school.

You probably are starting your menstrual life, Sugar. When I was 13 it just showed up one day. But when my daughter was 9 she experienced what you did for 2 months. Then nothing until she was 12. That's a female's body for you.
