For so long I hear many conservatives say gay marriage is evil and will hurt children. Yet, divorce harms children a lot more than gay marriage would. Mom and Dad separate is going to hurt little Timmy more than if Bob and Tom get marry. We see the effects of divorce and cohabitation in society. It hurts children. Just click the link below.

-children living with steparents or single parents are at a higher risk for sexual assault

-Girls whose parents divorce are at a higher risk for sexual abuse whether they live with their mother or father

Why don't we stop focusing so much on gay marriage and concentrate on preserving marriages?

gsay,

Sodom and Gomorrah wasn't about homosexuality. If you read the bible you will find God destroyed because of arrogance and haughtiness.

Ezekeiel 16:49-50:"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen."

Jesus never spoke of homosexuality.

Neo,

Where did YOU study the bible? Angels having sex with women? This wasn't the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The angels went to Sodom to look for righteous people and save it for being destroyed. They found Lot who has hospitable with them. He was the only one worthy of salvation. In this story, there is no sex between angels and humans.

Divorce. I agree.

With gay marriages, you don't have kids to worry about. It pains me, but one of the most common answers, when you ask kids "what is the most difficult thing you ever did in life" is when you get the response "deciding whether to live with my mom or dad". No parent should ever force their child to do such a thing. Statistics are not encouraging for depression, and in some cases substance abuse for those who divorce.

Even more galling, marriages that survive periods of hardship, like finding out that their partner has had an affair with someone else, often end up with couples happier then ever after the weather through their trials.

Gay marriage is something that I don't think should be promoted, but I don't think that it should be suppressed or demonized the way that the church has done.

Right now, the majority of marriages (sometthing like 60%) in North America will end up in divorce within 5 years. Ironically, the trend of expensive weddings is going up - lol.

OK, we don't have time for an entire history lesson here, but King Henry was a monstrous tyrant who twisted law and religion a thousand different ways to suit his personal political aims. So that's a really bad and ignorant example to begin with. To say 'King Henry (I'm assuming you mean Henry VIII) made a new Church so he could get a divorce and for no other reason' is just...I can't even go there. You answered your own question with your second statement: The Bible says divorce is wrong; therefore, anyone following Christian beliefs should hold that divorce is wrong. You don't get divorced in a church. You do get married in a church (and not always, you can get married anywhere, or just by your local court). So churches can't "ban" divorce, churches don't perform divorce ceremonies lol.

Neither is a good thing. However it depends on you're point of view as to which is worse. If two people love each other who are the same sex and want to marry. it should be between the two and let God sort it out. It's not up to us to judge and it's not our job to judge them. And as for as divorce goes, that's a terrible thing also. As long as we have young people under and around 20 who think getting married is no more frivolous than buying a new car, than we won't see much change in divorce either. Just because they are of legal age doesn't mean they are grown up enough for marriages.

My two sisters went through straight divorce and I went through gay divorce, and I will tell you honestly from the heart, that divorce is hell either way, and should be avoided at all cost.

BTW may ex and I are spending this Thanksgiving together with his spouse and are still the best of friends; although we both acknowledge and say to this day that we never should have divorced after 20 years of a very happy gay marriage.

Either way everybody, please think it over thoroughly and get all the counseling you can get before you jump into divorce, and remember the old saying. Watch out for what you wish for.........it may come true !

Well evidently, the liberals in all the blue states, think gay marriage is worse than divorces.

Thats why the liberals in every blue state, have passed laws banning gay marriages.

For some reason the left ignores that fact.

That every blue state, also bans gay marriage.

yes, Mass and maryland now allow gay marriage,

But only because the Courts overturned laws the citizens of those two states passed.

There is nothing wrong with gay marriage. Two people who love each other should be allowed to get married and they aren't going to harm society in any way. Things that DO harm society: intolerance, discrimination, hatred, fear, ignorance, and prejudice. Being gay isn't a choice and occurs naturally. One shouldn't be punished for being gay, just as one shouldn't be punished for being left-handed.

I don't prefer either. My religion deserves as much respect as the Gay lifestyle. Civil Unions would seem to hold the key to compromise. It appears that only gay extremists (not calling you one) are shouting for Gay marriage over Civil Unions.

I would like to see what a poll would show if this were asked of the average homosexual versus the self-imposed spokes persons we see in the lime light from time to time.

I agree that divorce is a cancer on society. No fault divorce was the worst thing that could have happened. Marriage is a "Contract". Why is it so simple to walk out of this contract versus others? Perhaps there should be a 90 day waiting period for marriage license as well as a mandatory six month cool off period between filing for divorce, and actually having it processed. The parties would have to attend and pay for mandatory counseling during this time before the process could move forward.

The only 2 towns completely destroyed by God was Sodom and Gomorrah - no other town has ever been wiped out completely for any other sin. Guess God feels that homosexuality is a huge sin. As far as divorce goes - same category - one wife one time.

Divorce destroys families, gay marriage doesn't.

It truly doesn't get much simpler than that.
