I WANT TO RENEW MY IP ADDRESS, BUT WHEN I ENTER
IPCONFIG/RELEASE FROM COMMAND PROMPT IT SAYS THE REQUESTED TASK REQUIRES ELEVATION. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? HOW CAN I RENEW MY IP?

Well my friend, you are running VISTA! Welcome to the administrative block.
You have to run ipconfig (and several other commands as the administrator for them to work) or you get the "Task Requires Elevation"..

Heres the easy way to launch an elevated command prompt, simply press the Win key; type cmd; press Ctrl+Shift+Enter; and then hit Alt+C to confirm the elevation prompt.
Yes that is SIX key strokes just to run a stupid command! But that protects you don't you know!

Once you have done that, then run the ipconfig and it will allow you to release and renew (like normal).

Ain't it great! Protection like you have never had ever before!
Vista has to have admin run certain items, in spite of the fact your probably are one!

go to My Computer > My Network Places > Network Connections > Right Click on the icon that you want to renew > click on the internet protocol and click properties > click on the use the following IP Address and type the one you want.

Are you on DHCP or static IP? Are you on a router with available DHCP addresses?

Use: ipconfig /renew.

Why do you need to renew your IP address, is it expired?

Are you an administrator on the machine? You may just now be allowed to release your IP.....
