I think the idea was that it came out by the time you were not a baby anymore so they couldn't call it a baby tooth. They must have figured that if you are older you are then full of wisdom.

The problem with it never coming out is that usually it grows sideways in your jaw and pushes the other teeth sideways so they turn twisted and ugly. With enough wisdom teeth fighting against you there is almost a guarantee you would have an ugly smile and need expensive braces to push your teeth straight again. You do not get a lot of wisdom but you do get a lot of dental bills starting with the cost of having those wisdom teeth pulled out to make room for your straightened teeth.

Because they are the last teeth to come in, around the age of twenty, it implies that that's about the time we start to wise up. So the wisdom tooth/teeth is used as a milestone as to when us kids will get our heads out of butts and attain some wisdom.

A wisdom tooth is only called that because people get them when they're in their late teenage years, hence they say that's when you get more wise.Back long ago peoples jaws were big enough so that they didn't have any problems with it, they used them to chew hard meat to help digest better. Over time peoples jaws began to get smaller, because they learned how to cook their meals and soften them. which explains why wisdom teeth are often HUGE problems today for many people. You have wisdom teeth when you're born, they grow in a little sac,and by the time you're of age, they usually erupt.

Without any dental care or fluoridation, most people lost their molars in their teens or early twenties from decay.
Additional molars, or wisdom teeth, would erupt about this time to replace them. Jokingly called wisdom teeth because they came in when a person left childhood and became adult, or gained wisdom.
Nowadays, we preserve our molars through life, and the wisdom teeth crowd up into the gums and need to be removed. If not removed, they can become impacted and infected, and crowd the jaw.

By the time those teeth show up, it is thought that you will have gainsed some wisdom by that time.

I have three wisdom teeth that will never come forth, although the dentist can see them in the x-rays (the fourth had to be removed)

Supposedly they come in when the person is considered a full adult, or "at the age of wisdom." Since 2 of mine were impacted and never came out, I guess I'm not as wise as I could be.

Last tooth to come out, indicates age and infers wisdom. Somtimes never emerge and maybe alright, surgical removal a common option.

Oh no. Mine are stuck inside my head and wont grow so I guess that makes me wisdom poor....however on the otherhand it might just make me wiser. Most people get their wisdom teeth pulled out, I get to keep mine forever so I am probably the wisest of all.
