I've been trying to figure out my sexuality for a little while now, and for some reason part of me wants to be a lesbian, going so far as to hold back my straight thoughts on some occasions. Is this strange? Don't people going through this normally hope to be straight? I hoped to be straight at first, but now I'm pushing heavily for the whole gay thing- not that I have much choice in the matter. :(

Why do I want to be a lesbian? Is it because I actually am a lesbian, or am I straight but having some psychological withdrawal from the opposite sex? Or is it something entirely different? help?

I dont know for sure but I did go through a similar thing when I was younger. I thought women were so beautiful and soft. not only that I really did enjoy their company and it made me wonder if I was gay, over the years I havent changed my opinion of women but found that actual sexual attraction was reserved only for men. I dont know where your actual sexual attractions lie but I hope I've been of help just by saying it's ok to admire certain qualities that women have.

There is a reason. Maybe you want to be different than most others your age and gender.

Maybe you equate being lesbian with being other attributes that you aspire to be.

Some think lesbians to be obese and manly while others think lesbians to be trim and feminine and intelligent. As we all know lesbians are all of the above just like anyone is.

This is something that only you really know why you want to be a lesbian when you are not having same sex attraction.

I would say it's abnormal as far as most women don't go through this but it's not abnormal for you right now as this is your issue and don't dwell on it.

If it persists and it causes you distress then you need to talk to someone about this. If it is at an obsession level then you need to talk to someone about this now.

Well, "gay" is abnormal, but the "urge" or "want" to be is not unusual.
Everyone gets a bit of homosexual tendencies depending on hormonal balances, so it's okay to just get a "feeling." This usually happens when you're about to reach puberty, since your hormones are just kicking in and act wild. So, eventually once the hormones calm down, you'll be oaky.

Science has already proven that homosexuality might be hereditary; if the father/mother has a case of "unusual behavior" (Sorry, this is all just stock knowledge and i dont know how to put it medically!) in hormones, then there is a chance it might pass down to the children.

But, it might also have something to do with your emotional, and mental condition now. Homosexuality tends to be the result of abuse, frustrations and loneliness.
Have you been feeling depressed or insecure lately? Because sometimes the want and need to communicate to somebody might be mistaken as homosexual feelings. I suggest you talk to some one about it, let out whatever bitterness you have, it might clear things up.
Hope this helps!

Your still discovering yourself. When I was in high school, I felt a connection with my female friends, beyond friendship. Their style, their attitude, everything. But at the same time, I never pursued anything with friends. It took well over 2 yrs for me to discover that I was " bisexual". I dont see where it is abnormal, as I have stated you are finding yourself. It takes time, if you have an attraction for females then yes you are " gay", if its an admiration then no your not gay..You will know, if you dont make a choice, someone will make it for you.

If you need any advice feel free to send me a message!

Best Wishes.

I thnink you are trying to be a lesbian because of how 'forbidden' it may have been taught to you as a child to have been. And you yearn for that little bit of naughtyness.

John S., you are a homophobe, aren't you? Don't listen to him, being gay isn't good, it isn't bad. Ignore the entire word, instead just be with the person you love, and don't think fo it as straight, or gay, just love. I'm happily gay and could care less about what others think.

I honestly don't' think you're a lesbian. But I think you do because it's accepted right now, and if you're gay, you're automatically loved, no matter who you are. You could be going through a difficult time in your life and see that gays have something you don't. Just go through it, it's just a phase.

"Normal" and "abnormal" are rarely used for what they really mean. Do most people wish they were gay? No.

Is it BAD to wish that you were gay? I don't think so, but I would wonder WHY. That is, there maybe something making you unhappy that makes you want to change your sexual preference. THAT might be something to be concerned about.

No- its not strange. Sexuality is not entirely dependant on environment; quite a bit of it is genetic. It's your genes that are making you think the way you are- it's just a part of nature, a part of you that you can't control.

Of COURSE it's not! You are still figuring out who you are, and I think everybody questions their sexuality. It's okay to want to be gay. Everyone wants what they can't have, I suppose. Besides, you may just really prefer girls to guys, and your getting confused. Just be happy with who you are!
