First, if someone at the bank makes that kind of error they would and should lose their job. That is very careless and "Yes" I would definitely contact the bank manager and let him know of such an error. If you or anyone are any kind of an honest human being you would do this as it is only the right thing to do. Just because it's an error doesn't make it right to keep it or even think of doing that. Hopefully, if something like that were to happen, you would do the right thing. I know I would not hesitate for one second. Who knows, maybe you will be rewarded with more than just the feeling that you did what is right.

Actually, stupid Charter 1 Bank made an error on my bank account and gave me $2,000.00 more than I should have had by screwing up 1 of my transactions years ago. I had to go through hell with those Charter 1 morons to get them to fix my bank account and admit they had screwed it up in the first place. To thank me for my trouble, Charter 1 put me through even more trouble to get a lousy $20.00 gift card (I saved their crap company $2,000.00 and they put me through hoops to get a lousy $20.00 reward). Needless to say that Charter 1 is no longer my bank after being so cheap and such a pain in the butt.
The reason I made sure they fixed their $2,000.00 error on my account (as I would with a $2 million error) has nothing to do with ethics, feelings, or charity. The reason I made the bank fix the $2,000.00 error even though it was in my favor was because I knew they would eventually catch it any way and come after me for the money. I wanted my account straight then and there rather than having to worry about it a year or 2 later (such as now when I am unemployed). If you do not have the money when they come after you for it, then you have to deal with the cops and you end up in jail even if the mistake was the bank's fault, so who needs the hassle.

I guarantt the bank will find the error before the end of the day so you wouldnt have to worry. If people really knew how many mistakes are made daily in the financial realm, they would keep their money in a jar. BUT THEY are always corrected by the end of the day

give it back because not only is it stealing BUT how could you even get away with it? They have your info you would have to quickly come up with a way to hide the money and then disappear. I would however go to an ATM an print out the receipt to have proof that even just for a milli-sec i was rich.

I would tell the Bank about it for the fact it doesn't belong to me after all you wouldn't want something like that happen to you, Would you? What I'm saying I would return it,Who knows maybe they would give you appreciation ! Plus you would feel good about it at the end.

I would let it sit in my account for a week and dream in my mind what all I could do with it .And after all the fun I had spending and giving,my dream became a nightmare,as I had to call the Bank and tell them they stole someone's money. They say dreams can come true! (lol)

You wouldn't have a choice... the only thing you could do is take the money and leave the country never to return... and they will STILL hunt you down... you can run, but for 2 million dollars... you can't hide

I just know that if that happened I would get caught with my fingers in the cookie jar so to speak. Yes I'd give the money back
But if there was no chance of me being caught,....that would be a harder question to answer

I'd give it back. If they figured out they made a mistake, they'll pull the money anyway. Or they'll knock on your door in two weeks and demand it back. If they told me I could keep it, I'd donate 1.8 million and invest the rest.

I am with you. I would give the money back. I wouldn't be tempted to keep it, even though we could use it.
