OK - let's go through the checklist:
1 - fiscal responsibility: NYC was hopelessly in debt when he took office. When he left, the budget was balanced.
2 - prior job results: Dude, NYC was a complete mess when he took office. I live about 80 miles from there and I wouldn't go in. EVER. By the mid-90s, the city was cleaner, safer, and I even took my family there.
3 - downsizing: NYC moved more people from Welfare to work then any individual state.
4 - working with the "enemy": He did have to deal with Congress in the early years due to NYC's financial issues. Most importantly, he had to deal with an overwhelmingly Democratic City Council to get things done and he did.
5 - overall experience: Who in this field has had more responsibility? No one. Who in this field understands the law better? No one. He was a Federal prosecutor in New York and took down the mob! Who in this field has his results? Not even close.
GOP Analysis: McCain is a nice guy with a bad temper. He is also too old for the job. He has also really alienated a lot of the country with his support of amnesty. Thompson really didn't accomplish anything while in the Senate. Then again, neither did John Kerry and he almost won. Huckabee seems like a nice guy from Arkansas but we've been there, done that. Romney has too much history of being on the opposite sides of the issues from where he stands now that he is running for president.
Giuliani, for his obvious marital faults, is a results-oriented guy with actual results. Nobody in the field has had more responsibility and done more with it. I have a hard time on some of his more liberal stances, but I am willing to look at the entire picture and this guy stacks up more favorably than the others.
There are no Democrats that can measure up to him either.

In this election I am leaning towards a couple of the democratic candidates but I do favor Giuliani over the other Republicans. Mainly I agree with his healthcare plan and his stance on foreign immigration even if I do not agree with him on the war.
One thing people should know is that Giuliani was not a remarkable NY mayor. I lived in New York while he was mayor and I'd have to say he popularity was relatively low among New Yorkers prior to 9/11. Maybe that's nothing to be ashamed about because us New Yorkers will complain about anyone haha

Im a democrat, and am voting for him simply because he is the lesser evil.
If he could clean up NYC, we should give him a shot at the entire US. He is pro-choice (kind of), wants to set up an evacuation process for the war (because lets be real folks, if we pull them all at once, there will be a big war that will most likely involve us anyway, and its not a war on terrorism, its a war for oil) and wants to stop over spending in government, stop exporting jobs, and help taxpayers in ALL brackets, not just the rich, and not just the poor. The big issues here are war, immigration, and money. All of which he has the best position. Unlike Hilary or the other dems who will bankrupt us and turn us into mexico II, Rudy will put a stop it. Did you see NYC before he was in office? Its night and day, those streets.

Sorry, but I would NOT vote for Rudy Guliani in ANY capacity. If he runs and wins, he has his work cut out for him. I am not sure he can heal the political divide. That will take a LOOONG time (no matter who is in office)

You shouldn't, I'm no fan of McCain, but at least he's a respectable man.. definitely better then Giuliani.. I lived in New York, when Giuliani was mayor.. there is a reason why he hasn't been able to carry his home state against Hillary..
The many factors against him:
He has been embroiled in scandals, his 9/11 record is blotched.. just ask the firefighters that blame him for the defective radios, that he was warned about, which resulted in over 242 deaths...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17869046/
He later claimed that he spend just as much time as workers on ground zero, and didn't offer any kind of sympathy for the fact that they are suffering from illnesses, It was later found that he only spend 29 hours on ground zero, less then the time he spend at Yankee Stadium..
Then he was warned in 1993, after the first world trade center attacks to move the security office from the seventh floor out of the building in case of an emergency.. of course he didn't listen and look at the results..
And New York City’s crime rate being down attributes to police Commissioner Bill Bratton, Rudy had nothing to do with it.. “Bratton, not Giuliani, was featured on the cover of Time Magazine in 1996.Giuliani forced Bratton out of his position after two years, in what was generally seen as a battle of two large egos in which Giuliani was unable to accept Bratton's celebrity” -wiki
His co-chair has been quoted as labeling "blacks retarded," not to mention that Giuliani's main sponsors have been caught in money fraud, drug/prostitution scandals, and child molestation
Don't forget when Rudy was mayor he was already accused of racial profiling, and not even reading the 9/11 commission report
He wants to grant amnesty for every illegal immigrant..
He has been married three times, including once to his cousin, and his own children won't even speak to him, his daughter plans to vote for someone else..
His solution is to the failing public school system is not doing anything at all. He wants to leave the option open for parents to chose public or private schools, but most middle-class Americans, cannot afford to go to private school. Instead of letting the system fail, why not improve it, our tax dollars are already paying for it

Giuliani is a Liberal Republican but he is supportive of the Iraq War since he is an anti-terrorist.
VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know who will likely win.

He answers all of your questions himself in his website and on his Youtube channel.
http://www.youtube.com/user/RudyGiulianiHQ
Anyway, he didn't JUST do a "decent" job of "running" a city. He completely rennovated a city that was among the most dangerous and corrupted in the entire world. He did this after decades of politicians, experts and journalists said that it was IMPOSSIBLE!!
Think of all the "Impossible" things that presidents have tried and failed to accomplish in the past. If there is only one person in the world that can do it, it is Rudy Giuliani.
Other than that, all of your other questions are answered for you on his channel.

I hope McCain gets the nomination he's a clever, guy with lots of gravitas, decent, great quick wit and a military hero. If he can't make a difference in the war on terror no one can.
