for guild wars, do i have to buy Guild wars to use Factions or Nightfall? or can just use Factions or nightfall without Guild wars

There are 3 'Guild Wars' games and one expansion pack.
The games are:
Guild Wars: Prophesies (or just Guild Wars)
Guild Wars: Factions
Guild Wars: Nightfall
You only one of the above to play. It doesn matter which one. You will only be able to access the content of a game you own however.
The expansion is:
Guild Wars: Eyes of the North
It requires one of the above games to play. It doesn't matter which one, but Prophesies is the most related with a character in common.
As far as ease of play, I think Nightfalls is the best. Prophesies has a better story line though.

Guild wars is a game on its own.
Factions is a game on its own.
Nightfall is a game on its own.
Eye of the North is an expansion to the original guild wars game.
A bit complicated...
I found the original the best personally... but have not tried Eye of the North yet... hope this helps :)

As far as I know, you can just buy either Factions or Nightfall withouth having the first one, I don't think it's an expansion chain kind of thing :)

u can use with out the original, only exception is eye of the north
