Hi, I have got a Desktop and going to purchase a laptop from Dell (same brand PC)

I have xp running on my desktop, and vista is given on the new laptop.

I am now scared that I might have encounter problem when trying to use router because they have diffrent OS and wanting to connect to broadband internet at the same time.

Is this possible?

My other question is if this is all too scary, im considering buying the laptop with xp installed to minimize problem.
But can I upgrade from xp later on to vista on my dell laptop with no hassle?

Or there will be a lot of hassle such as loosing all my files etc when I upgrade.

what do you think?

wow so many question, thanks guys

Router connection is not a problem, the connection software of VISTA has similar set as XP. Vista is not really that bad, it just have too many unfinished touches that cause some problems but most of the users may not feel the problems. Many users enjoy the new functions of the VISTA provides, you don't need to request for XP pro. If you do order XP Pro this time, the upgrading of the OS will not cause any data files lost, this is nothing to concern about. Get your Vista and enjoy the new computer.

You can purchase XP on the new laptop but will have to pay for a copy of Vista later if you want to update. If you have the files on a backup medium, you can do a file recovery. There are no problems in using a XP and Vista system on the same router. I have 2 XP, 3 Vista and one ME all running on the same Linksys WRT54G router.

In our house we have two desktop computers with XP on them, and the laptop I'm using now as Vista. We have never had any problems with the router and/or the modem =)

I hope that helps.

I don't see vista and xp together being a problem. But vista IS a problem period. I'd go with XP right now until more of the kinks with vista are worked out.

There is no problem mixing XP and Vista on a network.
If you don't get Vista on your order, you will have to pay for it later.
I personally will continue to run XP until MSFT pulls the plug. - 2012 I believe is the end of service.
By then so much will have changed it won't matter what you pick. And Vista will be much more stable. :-)

Hi. My opinion? I would get Win XP Pro if you can. Upgrade later when the driver issues have been resolved.
