In fact, he received not only student deferments, but requested deferment as a law clerk, which he received. As an aside, assuming you approve of his political positions or believe that his behavior during and just after 911 was laudatory, does anyone think that his poor relationships with past wives and current children is a strong negative to becoming president or is a reflection on his character. Or are these things all passe and of no consequence?

Having served in the military, I personally think it is a big plus for anyone, especially someone wanting to be commander in chief. I wouldn't post Lyndon Johnson and Hillary as proof that military service is irrelevant. What to me that is interesting with Giuliani is that he portrays himself as a conservative hero but lacks McCann's personal history of service and lacks real conservative positions on many issues. I may still vote for him, but I raise these questions to be provocative.

Draft deferments kept Giuliani, 62, of out Vietnam while he attended law school. In 1968, as the Vietnam War was escalating, he was classified 1-A, or draft eligible. After going to work for a federal judge, he received an occupational deferment. He was classified 1-A again in 1970, but had a high lottery number.
I'm honestly more impressed by his service in the war on crime in particular against the mafia. 2 mafia dons had hits out on him and it didn't deter his pursuit. That shows bravery. A lot of wealthy kids got deferred during Vietnam. Doesn't bother me. If he went and didn't serve honorably like Kerry I would've felt differently because then he took an oath.
Poor relationships with ex wives. Makes no difference to me unless he abused them or cheated on them and lied about it under sworn testimony then I would be concerned about his character and intelligence as a leader.
Im more concerned about Hillerys campaign tactics particularly minipulating that college student into asking a question and then lying and saying that she randomly picked her and knew nothing about the planted question. With, what, 200 people in the room mostly all raising their hands she just happened to call on this girl to answer one of 4 questions posed??? Or as a Pet owner myself how she got rid of socks (her cat) before they left office.. just gave the cat away. Buddy the dog died shortly afterwards after being hit by a car. 1 Dog - 1 Cat and One book written by both.. I guess he wasn't serving any purpose anymore. Its not a big deal to most but I find that really interesting. Im just saying.

Here's the actual reply, he received out of it two times with a deferment. he used to be certainly not within the army. He permit the others die at the same time he made his profession sweeter. Giuliani didn't serve within the army in the course of the Vietnam War. He obtained a pupil deferment at the same time at Manhattan College and a further at the same time at NYU Law. Upon commencement from NYU Law in 1968, he used to be categorised as a million-A, to be had for army provider. He implemented for a deferment however used to be rejected. In 1969, MacMahon wrote a letter to Giuliani's draft board, asking that he be reclassified as two-A, civilian career deferment, given that Giuliani, who used to be a legislation clerk for MacMahon, used to be an major worker. The deferment used to be granted. In 1970, Giuliani obtained a top draft lottery quantity; he used to be now not referred to as up for provider even though by way of then he have been reclassified a million-A.[15][15][16]

There's something wrong with someone who gets out of serving their country for reasons like you've listed, when not everyone has the ability to stay safe at home. I have a problem with someone who has done this and then is put in a position where they can make foreign policy decisions that other people may die for. I guess none of this matters to Pat Robertson nor does the fact that he is prolife and believes in gay marriage. They say "politics make strange bedfellows" but since they are both self centered, greedy kooks, they actually have a lot more in common when you think about it.

Neither did Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lyndon B. Johnson, William Jefferson CLinton, Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Reflection on his character, FDR and LBJ with their mistresses, DDE with his mistress, Jimmy Carter with homosexuality rampant in the west wing, Bill Clinton, well speaks for itself.
John Wayne requested deferment because he had too many children, Mel Gibson ran off to Australia,
What else ya got?

Again pointing fingers at Republicans. As someone else mentioned above, none of the Democratic front runners never served either. Certainly not Hillary, OR her husband!

Not really millions received deferments, what I find interesting is nobody talks about the draft dodgers.
