The Producers. Not the one with Jason Lane and Matthew Broderick, but the one with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. The move was successful in Scandinavia to such a degree that it has become part of the national culture. To this day, all Mel Brooks movies are released in Scandinavia as "Springtime for..." The Producers is titled "Springtime for Hitler," Blazing Saddles becomes Springtime for Cowboys, High Anxiety ==> Springtime for Psychos and Young Frankenstein ==>Springtime for Monsters.
What this reflects is the extent to which The Producers remade world attitudes toward Nazis by enabling us to laugh at them hysterically.
Don't be stupid
Be a schmarty
Come on!
Join the Nazi Party!
In context, especially coming out of Mel's mouth with its thick Lower East Side/Yiddish accent (It's a recitatif during the Springtime For Hitler product number), it's absolutely hysterical.
#2 on the hit parade has to be Dr. Strangelove. Also dark and weird, but any movie that can make you laugh till you puke over a thermonuclear exchange has to be good.
Being There is in much the same vein, only it illustrates that if you can't laugh at the American political system, you're going to cry instead.
But the Producers is the sickest, funniest satire on life and values and Nazism there has ever been.

I have to agree...Meet the Fockers had me doubled over, but American Pie was pretty darn close, if not funnier. I was watching it with a friend and was half asleep. It woke me up and I almost wet myself laughing. The entire cast was so freaking hilarious and every scene was comedic genius. Meet the Fockers was funny but I am going to have to stick with American Pie.
