I have read a couple of different answers about this .
One of them states that the word " Traveller " is a British variant , where " Traveler ", the US spelling is mainly used in the USA . Therefore IF , we ate both using the " ENGLISH " language , then the word TRAVELER used in the USA must be the variant ! . Many ENGLISH words have been cannibalized by the ' American Language ' ! .

Traveller is the British (Commonwealth) English spelling
Traveler is the US English spelling

The US "rationalized" the spelling used in Britain in the late-19th and 20th century (other changes included "our" to "or" as in "color", "re" to "er" as in theater)

Both are correct! Two "l"s is the British spelling, and one is the American English spelling...
