Don Pedro - I want to respectfully disagree with you. If you have educated yourself and exposed yourself to the world, then you can sit and joke with anyone from any ethnicity without offending them. The reason is, you are smart enough to make fun of stereotypes, not use stereotypes to make fun of people. Therein lies the difference.
Unfortunately, many people who feel in their hearts that they are not racist, have not exposed themselves enough to the world to understand how to make what comes out of their mouth reflect what's in their hearts. There's a lot of subversive racist semantics boiling just under the surface, and it takes a lot to identify these and "reprogram" your thinking and your linguistical tactics. I think this is what the PC movement was trying to get people to do, but like all things, the original motive has been forgotten and people are all over the map with it.
The example I always use is when someone is trying to prove they're not racist, the common response is, "I have nothing against you people, I have 3 black (or latino, or asian) friends." If you don't see what's wrong with that, you are perpetuating racism through your semantics without even knowing it.
We need education, people!

Yeah, I didn't understand the uproar either (and neither did my Chinese husband). I guess it was a knee-jerk reaction to anything having to do with race. I mean it was a little irrevent, but she is a comedian. I thought she was irreverent without crossing a line though.

How do you know no one is upset? I've visited many blogs run by Asians and East Asians who've expressed outrage at the continued presence of this character, but the Asian voice against racism is ignored by the mainstream media.

People are on this holier than thou kick. "You can't make fun of me unless you are like me". So in order to be PC you are not allowed to make fun of Blacks, Chinese, Jews, Mexicans, etc,.......... unless you are one.
What's worse is we now have the PC police who patrol the airwaves looking for someone to prosecute in the name of the group who was made fun of.
I think it is funny now that the black ministers and record producers are now claiming that it is no longer PC for blacks to call each other the "N" word. I also applaud this move because it always made me feel ashamed for them every time I heard two blacks calling each other that word.
I wonder is that politically correct.

Because she represents the hypocrisy of the far-left. If you did an impression of a gay person she would probably go through the roof, yet it's fine for her to do what she did. She's a "Do as I say and not as I do" liberal.

the problem isn't the impression itself. the problem is rosie's blatant hypocrisy when it comes to who can or cannot be made fun of.
if someone picked on gays or imitated one, rosie would throw a hissy fit and scream "homophobe". but it's ok for rosie to pick on whoever she wants?
also, if it were someone on the right who did that very impression, the media would attack the person like a swarm of angry bees. but people on the left can pick on whoever they please and it's ok.

If it didn't offend you why worry about it, you can't control how other people feel and it does no use to try to discount people's feelings it only makes you look silly
