I have a 2002 Mountaineer and it's been working perfectly but I just went to turn it on and it wouldn't start. I put the key in the ignition and it won't move to start the car. Someone told me the steering column might be locked. Can that be it and if so how can I unlock it?

First answer worth trying.
My mother has a Buick. It have 2 keys (Driver #1 and Driver #2). How her keys work they tell the car which driver it is and it will adjust mirrors, seat, etc, for the driver (Depending on the key used). If, her key gets messed up, the car will not start as an anti-theft protection (Someone can not make a duplicate key and it work, it needs programed to the car). These keys are crap if they get messed up. My mother lost her once and I called the dealer and he said find the key, a new one about $200. So, I found her key!!!
I not sure yours works like this, but, if so it may be damaged. I told my mother; never lay that key in direct sun, or lay it around anything electrical or magnetic. I not sure how they work exactly, but, any ounce of prevention worth trying. I hope yours just a simple fix.

If you're steering lock has activated when you try turning the key in the ignition try jiggling the steering wheel as well to take the weight off the lock and you should be able to turn the key.

Make sure your gear shift is all the way in park and also make sure that your key is in the ingnition all the way. Turn the key while turning your steering wheel. It should unlock if that is all that's wrong with it.
