What would the opposite of the saying "The apple does not fall far from the tree" be? I want it to sound good and intellectual. It is really important. Thank you. (I am trying to convince my mother she is just like me only inverse of the saying).

You can tell the quality of the tree by its fruits.

that saying implies that the child IS like the parent. The inverse would mean the opposite like ( that kid is so different from his family that the wind must have carried the apple miles from that family tree. or they might just blame it on the milkman.

Well, my kids usually just say...." Mom - apples/ trees....."

The saying , without being reversed is still effective.

It's really hard to say the opposite of this - because it is the tree that bears the fruit... it passes on its traits to its offspring.. so the offspring has inherited the parent's traits.

Parents don't inherit their kids traits.... they do have those things in common... it's very true.
