The thing you may never read about is using D2O in glass making to get rid of the water dip in the infrared spectrum. The batch will preferentially adopt the D2O into the mix and will kick it out at high temperatures with the aid of Chlorine.

The definition of hydrogen is that it has ONE proton. If it has no neutrons, it is ordinary hydrogen which participates in various reactions and, of course, constitutes water in H2O.

Hydrogen with one neutron is called deuterium. When in water, called "heavy water", it is useful for slowing down neutrons in nuclear reactors.

Hydrogen with two neutrons is called tritium and used to be used to coat watch hands since they glow in the dark. Being radioactive, it caused harm to people making the watches and is no longer used for the purpose. Tritium also has applications in hydrogen bombs or thermonuclear warheads.
