The answer is no. You HAVE to tell the clinic of any prescription drugs you're taking and the doctor's name, address, phone # so they can verify he prescribed it to you. This way, if your prescription causes a positive read for say amphetamines or barbiturates, the clinic can rule out illegal drug use with the prescription information. They don't disclose what prescriptions to the employer, only that you passed/failed the test. Its considered a pass if you test positive but have a prescription drug which would specifically cause that positive read.

Why would you give the letter from your doctor to the clinic? They don't care. When the drugs showed up in your urine, you would want to give the letter to the person hiring, right? The clinic did you a favor saying the medication was prescribed if it showed up and would have kept you from getting the job.
Also, did they say it was a "prescribed" drug, or a "prescription" drug they found with the test? If they called it a prescription drug, you could have got it from anywhere and simply tested positive for it.

They will only need to report what you are taking if the tests come back positive for an illegal drug. Some prescription drugs can created a false positive for amphetines. You would want this reported so the perspective employer will not that you are not using illegal drugs and disqualify you from the job.
They cannot ot hire based on what medications you are currently taking, not sure what law that would violate but it would violate the law.
Best of luck

A letter to the doctor was a good idea. You might want to consider having your attorney send a carbon copy of the letter and your legal rights to the potential employer. This way you can show your potential employer you are proacitve and responsible. (Good traits for a new employee)
This is not legal advice. Please check with an attorney.
