Using the theorems of chords, secants and tangents we have:

(DC)(DI) = (AD)²
x(x + 5) = 6²
x² + 5x = 36
x² + 5x - 36 = 0
(x + 9)(x - 4) = 0
x = -9, 4

Since the answer must be positive:
x = 4
