I'm exactly where you are right now...we are also going to start trying to concieve in a year...or did you mean "next year", as in starting in January? Anyway, my advice to you is stop smoking before you start trying to concieve. Sometimes, the nicotine withdrawl in your system can be a real problem when you are pregnant. Also, start taking folic acid right away to get yourself ready for conception. Make an effort to eat healthy and get a little moderate exercise (walking about 30 minutes a day will do). See your gyne for an appointment before you start trying, so you can make sure you aren't going to have any problems there. Also, if you haven't been to the dentist in a while, you should do that too. Good luck to you.

The best thing you can do is quit smoking, now. Take it from me, an ex-smoker, you need to try to quit before you find out you're pregnant. My husband and I both smoked, I found out I was pregnant last November, and by the time I found out, I was already 13 weeks along (there are reasons I found out so late...I have major reproductive issues). At any rate, I didn't quit, and I lost the baby at 20 weeks. I had to deliver a stillbirth in the hosptial. They say the smoking could have played a role, although it wasn't confirmed.
I continued to smoke from stress, and found out I was pregnant yet again in March. As soon as I found out, I quit, and I've been smoke free my entire pregnancy. I have found numerous differences between the two pregnancies, and I KNOW that I'm doing myself and the baby a favor by not smoking. My husband went on that new medication Chantix and was smoke free within 2 weeks of starting. We both noticed we can breathe so much better, we aren't so tired, we don't stink, and our baby will be raised in a smoke free environment.
Other health tips...eat well, exercise, and start a prenatal vitamin now. Make sure you're eating foods rich in folic acid, which can help prevent neural tube defects early on in pregnancy. Eat fish, and make sure you're getting in Omega-3 fatty acids, which are good for baby's brain and eye development. Because my hubby and I wanted to try for a baby soon after our loss, I made sure I was doing the right things, and it's all paid off so far...our son is growing beautifully.
Good luck to you!

Definately start the quitting smoking process now. Do not drink alcohol while trying to conceive, it affects the baby at all stages. Make sure you're getting your 10 servings of fruit and veggies everyday - if you're not already doing this, try to get in the habit of it, it'll be very hard to start when you're tired and craving ice cream. When you decide to start trying, start taking folic acid. Try to get some omega-3 fatty acids into your diet as well (easiest way to do this is switching to flax bread, or eating more fish in your diet).
Lastly, relax about trying. You can actually delay your ovulation/period by getting anxious about it!

Quitting smoking is a good start...also once you really try to conceive you should stop drinking...the first few weeks are crucial as far as alcohol goes. Get your doc to do a pre-pregnancy check up on you...and get some prenatal vitamins with folic acid. (You have to have enough Folic acid BEFORE getting pregnant to avoid spina bifida). Eat healthy and get some exercise...a healthy mommy makes a healthy baby. Good for you to plan ahead!!

Definitely talk to your doctor. Start trying to quit smoking NOW. Lots of people have been successful using a new drug called Chantix. You could start taking pre-natal vitamins now too. I do and I don't expect to begin trying for another 6 months or so.

-Start exercising to get yourself in shape. You can continue exercising during pregnancy to help your body better prepare for labor. Don't overdo it - try walking, jogging, swimming, pilates, or yoga.
-Take prenatal pills.
-Start to quit smoking now before your pregnancy. There are lots of medication out there to help you out so ask your doctor about them. Hypnosis can work too. Try the patch or a Quit Smoking group in your area for support. If your hubby smokes try to get him to quit with you. If he refuses at least have him smoke outside or away from you.
-Call your insurance company. How much do they cover for prenatal visits? Emergency room visit? An ambulance ride? A c-section? Epidural? Doula? Midwife? Induction? You need to be prepared no matter what happens with your baby's birth. Make sure you are covered for all possibilities.
-Start saving! A baby is as expensive as you make it. You don't need all the most expensive newest products for baby. My brother and sister-in-law spent LOADS on their first child while I'm doing most of my shopping at garage sales and secondhand shops. It all depends on your personality. If you want to go all out for this child then definitely start saving asap.
-Go to the doctors and get a physical. Make sure that you don't have an abnormal pap smear or STDs. An abnormal pap smear can be caused by HPV which can cause cervical cancer or warts on the cervix. Get yourself treated if you end up having any problems.
-Do anything that you want to do before you have a baby. Have you always wanted to go on a cruise or a special vacation? It would be harder to go on a big vacation with an infant or toddler so do it now.
-Stop doing drugs if you do them. If you are on anti-depressants or any other medications talk to your doctor about how to go off them.
-Start eating right. Eat plenty of veggies and fruits and stay away from all those empty calories.
-If you drink loads of caffeine try to limit your intake now because it'll be harder to do later on. If you drink 4 or 5 cups of caffeine a day then you might experience headaches or irritability once you go to 0-2 cups. It would be a lot easier to do now gradually. Doctors recommend you limit your caffeine intake to 0-2 cups of caffeine a day. Remember... soda and tea also have caffeine in them... it's not just coffee!
It's really smart of you to start thinking about your baby BEFORE he or she is conceived. A lot of parents wait until after the fact to worry about it. Good luck!

no longer something i'm able to think of of, inspite of each and every thing it extremely is us of a. we don't have ebola or malaria or SARS. i think you'll be careful for H1N1, yet i've got faith it is not as prevelant right here through forged climate we've 12 months around. the explanation at the back of flu season is by using the fact the climate around extremely some the country is chilly, so which you have extra human beings indoors in close quarters.
