the problem insnt the mercenaries, its that they are completely unregulated.

back in december of last year, a contractor got drunk at a christmas party in the green zone and shot and killed the body guard of the president of iraq for no reason whatsoever.

this man was sent back to america and faced (and faces) not only no criminal charges, but no punishment of any kind.

now he is free to spend what is left of his $30K-a-month salary.

i have problem with that.

What if we used private contractors to wage peace, and put the military out of business by ending wars for ever?

I think a guy named Jesus tried this a couple thousand years ago though... it hasn't worked yet. Too many religious people that prefer war over peace I guess.

I know, what if only non-profits could get defense contracts?

That would turn the military industrial complex in a new direction!

I believe Evel Justin. The warfare in Afghanistan would be merely yet another Vietnam. The human beings do no longer look to understand whom they are combating and the thank you to combat, given the antagonistic territory and the undependable close by administrationns there and in Pakistan. The warfare in Afghanistan, and for that count everywhere interior the international, is likewise needed for the U. S. to maintain its armaments marketplace. i do no longer think that the present President would be waiting to end the warfare, regardless of if he has the potential and the authority. Now, with the present discovery of minerals interior the country, the warfare will in straightforward terms extend till a logical end is arrived at, the two by potential of winning the warfare (no longer seen achieveable) or by potential of taking flight and making peace with the close by warlords so as that the treasure could be exploited.

I don't know of any private contractors that are helping the US wage war.

Unless you count the logestic contractors providing cooking, cleaning etc.

Do you ?

Black Water surely isn't.

They were hired by the State Department to augument the State Departments Diplomatic Security Service.

They were hired to be body guards, not warriors.

The GOP/NeoCon agenda is to privatize most of the goverment so why not start with the Army......

Why not make a profite off of the companies stock that got the no bid contract....

Also with out Black Water there would not be enough boots on the ground.... So their would have to be a draft....

The draft might make kids put down there Xbox and pay attention to whats happening in this country and try and do something about it... Punish the party that started it.....

Yes, I have a problem with it! If we don't have the enough of our own military to do the job, perhaps we shouldn't be trying to do the job in the first place! Then too, private contractors were not under the supervision of our military, so they could do as they pleased & what they pleased to do wasn't always in our best interest. The private contractor was offered immunity from any blame connected to actions by their men while our own troops have been tried for actions performed in the line of duty & have had to try and explain themselves! Wrong! These guys were paid over $700 dollars a day & fought when & how they pleased. Don't you think that our service people felt a bit cheated by this, I certainly do!

If the Iraqi government wants to use private contractors to fight their war let them buy a copy of Soldier of Fortune magazine.
The US government has no business hiring mercenaries. That money could be better spent by paying the soldiers of our own military a higher salary.

Its funny. I heard that Bush White House aids and members of his administration have avidly read Machievelli's "The Prince" but it appears that they haven't.

Machiavelli says that private contracters or mercenaries have no scruples and do not obey your laws or their command. They have no ties to the nation they work for. Machiavelli also says to lose the trust and admiration of the people is deadly in time of war because they're the only resource a "Prince" can rely on.

Oh, yes, conservatives, isn't just grand to pay $1,200 of your precious tax dollars per man, per day, to have a bunch of murderers destroy America's credibility even further than Bush could have himself, while we pay our soldiers an average of $30,000 a year and then ignore the destruction of their health when they come home! Support the troops, indeed!

Well no, of course not. They can kill innocent people without it reflecting badly on our military.
Wasn't that the whole goal? to clear land for oil wells?
Its a lot easier than eminent domain. /end sarcasm

There is always something wrong with funneling resources to a private army that answers to no laws or constitution.
