Hate Crime???

The recent "Jena-6" protests have sparked the news-entertainment channels to discuss where we have/have not made progress in the prosecution of hate crimes. One such nugget was that there were only 21 crimes prosecuted in 2006 vs. ~86 ten years ago. (sounds like we're doing fine to me.)

That news piece did get me thinking. Who commited the hate crime in the Jena-6 case? Was it the white kids that hung nuces from the tree, or was it the six black kids that ganged up on the white teen?

I'd have to say it was the blacks. Hanging nuce from a tree is racist, but not neccessarily a crime. It DID NOT hurt ANYONE. However, the "Jena-6" did.

So, who committed the hate crime? And, why did Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, & others petition a credible crime?

Can anyone give me a link to a law that covers this issue?

Can anyone give me a link to a law that covers nuce hanging?

Hanging a noose from a tree is a hate crime and you do not have to be black to understand this. Are you in denial or what? Come one now, that was a hate crime. Not saying that the black males beating on this white kid was OK, no it wasn't. However, why wasn't anything done about it? Racism..... Prejudice and ignorance is the answer. because white society in that part of the country have this false belief that it was OK.... And obviously so do other individuals... Such as yourself... Hanging a noose from a a tree is racist and a HATE CRIME. The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act in its definition of hate crimes describes INTIMIDATION tactics as hate crimes. I do not know how anyone can argue that hanging a noose is not an intimidation tactic, because IT IS.

Also, lets keep in mind that the black students had to ask for permission to sit under a tree because it was an area where white students hung out! After the noose was hung from a tree the students said it was a prank and authorities ignore the incident. This comes to show you that ALL hate crimes are NOT initiated by minorities. So if you think they are, you are a RACIST and in deep denial. Open you're eyes and look at the statistics of people wrongfully accused and incarcerated and dead because of hate crimes.

So, my answer is that the white students committed the hate crime. The black students "attacked" (i put it in parenthesis because I do not think it is accurate to use that word to describe the incident) the white student as a response to what had been done to them. Yes, you can argue that the black students were avenging what had been done to them, and you would be correct. Still, avenging something does not make it a hate crime, but a deliberate act to offend others because of their race IS a hate crime.

I agree with P S to the extent that hate crimes are committed by ALL races. (BTW; How many times were we called "Paleface" by Indians? We committed hate crimes against them too!) The dictionary defines the word "Ni**er" as simply; "A slave." Could be black, white, mexican or chinese. It doesn't specify. A lot of these derogatory terms are slang words made up by mean, hateful people for the sole purpose of starting trouble. See that you are not one of them. I don't hate anybody but if I did, it certainly would not be simply because their skin color is different than mine. That is something they absolutely cannot help. It is not a curse! There is NO shame in one being black or mexican, and they should be treated no differently than anyone else. However, they should remember that this is a two way street. BTW. Sticks and stones may break my bones..... I laughed every time George Jefferson called Tom Willis HONKY! And I am a white man!!!!

The white kid was attacked b/c of constant RACIAL slurring and attacks on the blacks in that school committed by him and his friends in the weeks prior and in the days leading up to him getting his *** beat. All of which (the white kids racial attacks and slurs) was never punished. Im sorry but there is only so long you can "pretend" not hear someone SCREAMING N-I-G-G-E-R at you as you walk down the hall. I think an *** whooping was long overdue.
By the way, nooses are respresentative of hate crimes and racist behavior. They were hung to send a "message" to the blacks of that school. NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT. Please stop acting as if this little racist white boy did nothing wrong. HE IS NOT INNOCENT. And if he was so "hurt"....WHY DID HE GO STRAIGHT TO A PARTY IMMEDIATELY UPON BEING RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL???

Furthermore, racist behavior DOES hurt people...

hanging a nuce is not a hate crime, who said it was, now if they had pointed to it and said "This is for you, you damn *******" that would be a hate crime, but nuces have been around longer than hate crimes, it is a hate crime to hang a nuce.
