1) Gore's movie was unexpectedly popular and, global warming is a news issue so why wouldn't they capitalize on it?

2) They can report about it anyway they want and sensationalize to their hearts content because it'll be decades before anyone will really know if it was true or not.

3) It's easy stuff. There's an "expert" around every corner and they all want some face time so they have an instant interview whenever they need to fill some dead space.

4) It makes it look like they really care. NBC did that whole "green week" thing and that not only helped make them look concerned, but it allowed their news casts to make tie-ins to their TV shows.

5) People eat it up. If they didn't, it wouldn't be there.

Why only five reasons? for the media interest in climate change ?
History shows that the World is in constant change. It is obvious that with more people living on the planet is it going to produce problems in the supply of food, rubbish removal, exhausting our natural supply of fossil fuel energy, extreme deforestation, more land being used for building homes for the mass of people....the topics that the press can latch onto is endless.....more news... means more papers.... and then more trees needed to fuel the newspaper industry and so on..the merry go round keeps going around!!!
Can't wait for the Sunday papers to see whats New?????

They discovered that sensationalizing it sold air time and newspapers.

The one-worlders see it as catalyst to a world governing body and they have their fingers into the media

The anti-US people have been able to spin the US refusal to sign on to treaties aimed at destroying the US economy which sells add time, etc

It will make great subjects for several 60s style horror movies and radiation/nuclear Armageddon concerns have died off

Politicians have made it into a major point of contention (again, selling ad time and newspapers)

the reason is because scientists and politicians are finally taking it all seriously. only the selfish greedy 4x4 driving obese sucky heads in the sand morons are still refusing to see global warming is a real thing. you don't think so? no? look at how the ice is melting more and more at the poles. google it.
oh hang on plenty of scientists give evidence that its nothing to worry about.
well so what many scientists in the 50/60s supported the tobacco industry. you think tobacco is safe and lovely?
why take the risk that the warning is a mistake? why gamble with your children's kids future?
y2k didn't happen because many people took the threat seriously and took steps to make sure it didn't happen. and wow it never did thanks to the work of vast numbers of people. i hope as many folk take global warning seriously and advert it so that in years to come it will look like people were being stupid - but only because people worked hard to wipe out the danger.

Because the media as well as the congress are sold off to special political and corporate interests! The bottom-line for them is not the welfare of our plant but the lining of their pockets! As for the five reasons you asked, I think I gave you five to the tenth power; just count them yourself!

“Don’t let them tell you who/what you should be afraid of; ask them to tell you who/what is to be blamed for and why!”

3.Its a great excuse to put up taxes
4.Its a great excuse to put up taxes
5.Its a great excuse to put up taxes

Thats the only reason the government is so passionate about it.
Don't see any of our politicians cutting down on carbon emissions by walking or taking a bus and as far as I am led to believe, there is no reduction in their using of private jets here there and everywhere.
