You said it yourself. Rap is poetry. Poetry is spoken word. Spoken Word is sold in separate sections in music shops like Borders and Barnes & Nobles from other sections where they sell....music. You see, music almost always has melody. In my honest opinion, which is scientific and lenient by nature, rap isn't music at all. Not that it cannot be sold or played on the radio, but it simply isn't music. It is art, art that can be sold like a painting or statue or poetry. I'm sure there are rap acts that don't cuss, talk about women in degradation or drop N-bombs like bird seed in a park. They don't sell like Lil Wayne or Too Short or Nas, but they're out there. Then, there's the last two sentences you wrote. You "could have" said bad things about metal, but didn't? Why? Doesn't metal, in its subgenres and intensity, have the same fair say as far as lyrics go in rap? It's not fair to get on the podium to support rap and backhand metal as you step off. If rap is misunderstood, you certainly don't win your argument by begging the question that metal's extremes are worse than rap's. For you to then turn around and burn heavy metal after begging for understanding on rap, I say you are the biggest hypocrite since Bill Clinton holding a cigar. Don't piss on my leg and call it rain. Rap is violent and degrading most of the time. You cannot defend that, especially after trying to say the heaviest rock should be ignored for the same reasons. Don't stop there! Why don't you call out country for the glorification of drinking, or the blues for that negative vibe? I mean, you busted that door wide open. You posted this same question on Rock and Pop. I agree with you on most thing. It just seems like that's all you would hear on rap music is just the same thing they all talk about . Instead of raping about thing that actually matter. To me they don't really care about the young ones that are listening or that look up to them. I think it would be better if they would talk about thing that matter in the world.
