Because he still represents the Republican Party. If you listen to Rudy talk he sounds more "cowboyish" than Bush ever thought about being, so it's a stretch to say he probably wouldn't continue the same trend in policy. It's a stretch to say any of them wouldn't who are running for the Republicans right now, excepting Ron Paul. They should be complaining about his policies, they don't agree with them, and it's going to be his mess they have to clean up when they are elected.
The Republican Party is known well for one thing. Sticking together. If the Republican candidates are seeking to distance themselves from Bush because he is so unpopular the rest of us know that doesn't mean they won't operate exactly the same way once they get in themselves. People are smart enough to know why they are distancing themselves to begin with, and it isn't because they don't agree with him - it's because he's so unpopular and it would hurt their campaigns to be honest and say they do agree with him.

The Republicans don't distance themselves from Bush, they just ignore his presidency, preferring instead to compare themselves to Reagan. The argue about which of them is closest to Reaganomics and never discuss the president.
Is there a point?
We are still in the Bush presidency, and hes tone deaf as to what the people want. This will reflect on the Rep candidates.

He is a republican
All the republican candidates supported him till they started bailing because the people had bailed.
It is to remind people how screwed up republicans are.
I vowed, after Newt Gengrich and Co tried to bring down a president through smearing him into oblivion while doing the nasty themselves, that I would never vote for a republican, till they cleaned house. They got worse, a lot worse. I yearn for a middle ground republican party, where at the very least I can pay attention. Right now they are a foot note on my attention plotter.
Peace
Jim

Hmm imagine that....all through the Bush catastrophe right-wingers have bashed Bill Clinton, now that Bush is still in office, and almost out, they want to focus forward to the next guy who isn't even in office yet.
Sounds like someone has avoidance issues.

Its just typical Democratic far left hatred which exploded after the 2000 election. They use hate to advance their politics not cooperation.

Bill Clinton has been gone for nearly 7 years and he's still being blamed for everything thats gone wrong during the Bush administration. It's the B&B game. Bash and Blame, don't let facts get in your way.

1)The war is still going on meaning American hero's die while this failed administration declared mission accomplished and later assured everyone the insurgency was in its last ....years ago.
2)The enormous debt George W brought on America will take a very long time to recover from
3) George W Bush promised to restore honor and decency to the white house but his acts, illegal war under false pretext, disrespecting everything America stands for hurt America and the world!
I understand Conservatives would rather not talk about him but that's too bad, his actions mistakes and failures are very very relevant because the mess he made will have to be cleaned up. A big and heavy responsibility

Listen! If I had my way Adolf Bush, Dickless Chaney, all the immediate distant member of their families, members of the cabinet and department heads would all be spending the rest of their lives in the wonderful accommodations at Gitmo or Leavenworth. There they can enjoy, for free, the wonderful joys of waterboarding, thumb screws, electric shock to the private parts and have everthing they do, say or write placed into some huge database somewhere.

Didn't the Right blame Clinton for all the wrongs during Bush's 1st term?
