It's not long until our 40th wedding anniversary and I've been thinking about how to celebrate. We really are not party people but have children, grandchildren and friends who might be interested in a get-together of some sort. I've also thought about a special vacation with just me and my husband. Our anniversary is in April. What are your thoughts on this subject?

Think for a minute....
What have you always wanted to do but never had the time to do? Where would you go? What would you see? How would you get there?
Goodness gracious, hon. Do it.
You and your beau will never have another opportunity like you have right now. Don't delay, do it today. (Someone else said that first but I'll borrow it for a minute).
And give the old boy a kiss....like you meant it.

We sometimes go out to eat with family or go for the weekend somewhere. I think the vacation is a very good idea. You might want to have a special get together celebration with your family and friends and then leave the next day for your vacation. That way you get a real celebration and a get away too. Hope you have a wonderful anniversary whatever you do.

We do something different every year. Our 41st anniversary was in July. So, I took my wife out to dinner at Lawry's Prime Rib, a few blocks east of the Strip.
For one anniversary a few years ago we were flying off somewhere on that date. But, I wanted to do something to mark the day as something special. So, I hired the same limousine service which had taken us from our wedding reception in Hollywood to the Disneyland Hotel. That firm has recently expanded their operations to Las Vegas. That morning one of their limos arrived at our house to take us to the airport in Las Vegas. My wife was truly surprised.
As for your fortieth coming up, congratulations. Do get away together some place. Maybe a short ocean cruise. Let your kin show up at the pier to wish you "Bon Voyage".

I'd opt for the vacation. You know celebrating
and remembering why you got married in the first place. Years of being there for children, grandchildren, earning a living, all those things you've spent making sure the family will survive regardless of hell or high water has to of been
quite a task. You've done now celebrate your success. Alone!

Every year is different. Just celebrated 48 year in October and the kids took us out to dinner at a nice restaurant overlooking the lake. Came home to a beautiful bouquet of red roses and took a long soaking bath (for two) in the big tub.

I don't think it should be up to you to organize anything. I would have thought one of your Family could have sorted something as it is quite a momentous occassion.
Having said that, how do you know nothing is being arranged as we speak? And, how would they stop you arranging something else?
My 60th birthday was 2 years ago and 14 Kids and Grandchildren arrived in a mini bus and totally gobsmacked me! I knew nothing about it and it was brilliant!
I do hope you get a massive surprise!

Your 40th is a milestone year.
You could ask every one to attend it in THEIR wedding dresses!
I would celebrate it with my family and closest friends, and make it a Black tie and Evening Dress Occasion. Just for fun!
