Random Access Memory is the temporary memory your computer uses to store files that are currently in use. The more RAM you have, the better. For example it will always be better for multitasking/running many programmes at once. 2GB of RAM is perfect to run Windows XP and Windows Vista and to do high performance work.
Hope this will help,

The above link will give you some guidance as to how much memory you need for the various OS your laptop may have.
You don't tell us what OS you'll be using or what you will do doing with your new purchase.
I'll take a guess and say your new laptop will have Vista on it and that you'll mostly be surfing, word processing, emailing etc.
If I'm right then 2GB should be enough.
If I'm wrong and you're heavily into photo editing or see yourself producing the next Shrek then I would get a bit more.
Good luck and enjoy your new toy.

2Gb is actually good. most newer systems are lucky to have 1Gb in them. If it is a Vista operating system then 2Gb is almost required to run smoothly with 4Gb doing better. If it is an XP O/S 2Gb will be excellent.

Hi. That is a good amount if you will use Vista, which benefits from additional RAM. Pretty much standard now.

That is a lot. Plenty for anything a laptop can do.
