I have 2 questions about the upcoming presidental elecions/ campaigning...

1) Political strategists say that a presidential candidate will need to raise $100 million to compete effectively in the early 2008 primary season. Where do the candidates get this money? How might the need to raise so much money influence our political system?

2) 10. Do you think the United States is ready for a woman president? An African American president? Explain.

1. They get the money from anywhere they can. They do screen for legality after a fashion, but they are not picky about where the dollars come from in 99% of cases.
2. The need to raise money diverts their attention from almost everything else. Rather than preparing policies personally, or in many cases even participating in preparing them, they spend time making personal appeals for cash. The need to raise so much money also compromises their integrity. No matter who says what, when a politician gets a fat check, he/she is being influenced.

2. I personally don't think that the United States is ready for the current woman candidate, nor for the current African-American candidate. The reason is because the first has no charisma and does have a ton of baggage, i.e. ill will left over from the Clinton presidency. The second, Obama, is a bit more problematic. There is a great deal of resentment against blacks due to the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharpton's constant playing of the "race card" at every opportunity. A vote against a black candidate would be a way to strike back at them. The excuse is that they are seeking unfair advantage for blacks. In addition, I think that Obama has been wounded by the perception that he hasn't enough experience.

I promise you. Neither of these will win against even the dwarfs that are the front runners for the Repugnicans. Aside from the notes above, the Dimocraps are still seen as the party that buys votes by passing out welfare to those that don't earn it. And, I might say, the perception is only slightly off the mark. (NOT that the Repugnicans are one whit better - but they're worse for different reasons.)

1) There are various ways for candidates to raise money. Since an individual can only donate $1,000 other methods have devised such as PAC's and hedge funds. I'm not an expert on the topic so I won't even try to elaborate on that. As for how it may influence our political system; it already has. Why do you think the two-party system has remained intact for so long? Why does the average American know only 2 or 3 of the presidential candidates? Money.

2) Yes and No. This may sound wishy-washy but I think America would accept a woman or minority president, but it has to be the right one. I think Clinton, if elected, will be bad for America and bad for women hoping to become president one day. Obama is the most competent minority candidate ever and, even though I do not support him, I think he could help America in certain areas.

Hillary Clinton has the resources for an effective campaign since she inherited the network of fundraisers that supported Bill Clinton to become President. The US is ready for a woman President since it has political stability unmatched by other superpowers.

VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know who will likely win.
