Well, give her a gift based on what you know about her.

Is she excited, preppy, perky, outgoing? Then I suggest an American girl doll, one that looks simular to her. She will love this because it is cute and she can easily dress it up to look like her, and be creative.

Is she a big fashionista? Try some uggs, or fuggs that are really soft and cute. Or, if you really want to express her, pick out some necklaces, anclets, clothes, anything you thing she would enjoy. I know this will mean a lot to her because it came from you, and as a present perent myself, I know she'll love it!! You could also try giving her a certificate and going shopping with her, which could also double as a great bonding experiance...

Is she crafty, artistic, maybe a little quieter? Why don't you try to find a close art store, and buy some aint and a canvas? You could encourage her with her drawings and then help her hang it up in hew bedroom. Also, some towns have "Pottery Places", which have different plates, puppy's, cups, etc that you paint and they fire. This is great fun for all ages, and I highly suggest it if there is one near you...

You said she loves music, so you could but her lessons for a rented instrument, if she might be interested in learning how to make her own music, or you could go with concert tickets to a Hannah Montanna Concert, one that's calm, and music she loves.

If she really doesn't fit any of the criteria above, you should ask her, or take her shopping to see what she wants, and then surprise her with some of your favorite ideas on Christmas. The Holiday season is about getting to know everyone better. Look at this as an oppertunity to get to know your doughter better. If you do, the relationships can be amazing, even in their teenage years...

Hope I helped!!

My niece is almost 5 and we are in a similar situation--she does not like traditional "play" things. She's very into art, and we are buying her all sorts of Crayola Color Explosion/Crayola Color Wonder toys. She's also getting a jewelry-making kit (I found it in the crafts section at Target--they have a lot of good ones) and a book from Chicken Socks (a brand that makes activity books for kids-just search "Chicken Socks" on Amazon) for making paper flowers.

The Sansa Shaker is supposed to be a really great little MP3 player for little kids. It's about $30

You can put together a CD of songs you think she'd like, or buy her some CDs you think she'd like. There are also all sorts of kids' musical instruments that teach them the fundamentals of playing--there are many good toy guitars out there in particular.

I tend to agree with the MP3 but if you think she might lose it or break it, etc. You can get her a stereo (some are as cheap as $50) and some CD's. Or perhaps a musical instrument such as a recorder or a harmonica. Something simple but effective.

I am getting my son this new digital camera they have for young children, its practically indestructible according to the advertisement. I notice kids love to have things they see their parents with, she might like that..
