can we be fired for that? We gave the money to the compnay so is it still embezzelment?

it is not embezzlement nor theft as long as the buyer was an unrelated third party [your friends and relatives are related parties].

as to whether you can be fired, probably.

most jobs are "at will" -- you have a job while both you and the company agree that you do. when either decides the relationship is over, for any lawful reason, it ends.

if you have a written employment contract and you haven't violated it, no -- you can't be.

probably, if you are a unionized worker, you also can't be fired without the company goes through the full procedure specified in the union contract and for a cause approved in that contract.

at most, this sounds to me like you exceeded your authority. Off hand, I'd guess the matter isn't a firing issue even if you did and if the boss is a jerk, he's still the boss.
