Why is the zionist state of israel in the the "EURO 2008"?

First I am going to ignore your mention of the word "zionist" because it concerns an issue in which I have no interest whatsoever. This is however what does interest me because I am European ----> No matter how many times your question is asked, it will always be a valid question. For some reason they want to be seen as white people, as Europeans something that they are not. They take part in the Miss EUROPE contest, also in the EUROvision song contest; they are in the EUROPEAN qualifying groups in the World Cup, they take part in the EURO2008, and worst of all, I am told that they have applied to become members of the EU which is a union of EUROPEAN countries, a union created for European countries to mutually protect European interests. In what way can anyone defend the participation in and membership of Israel in this EUROPEAN union puzzles me?! For a start, the EEU is a Christian Union and they are not. QUESTION: do people object to them taking part in everything European ? WHY SHOULDN'T THEY object ?

Answer to Caninele.. This is NOTHING about being of European descent. Israel is a SEPARATE nation, its citizens hold ISRAELI passports, the INTERESTS of Israel are different fro the interests of Europe on that alone Israel has nothing to do with Europe and should not join our Europe.
Israel and Europe have common interests when it comes to things like terrorism, I agree. But then we have those similar interests with every other country in the world.
The EU is more than just about peace. It sounds like a previledge that Israel can do what it likes. This is the feeling that people are left with. --- For one they are making us targets in terrorism attacks so on that alone, Caninele, it makes absolutely NO SENSE AT ALL, see ?!

Well, for one thing they are a modern, western country and the majority of Jews in Israel are of European decent; a large number fairly recently. They are as easy a fit as Italy, Spain, or Greece and better then Turkey since only a small proportion of Turks are of European decent. It actually makes good sense.
