Even if you justly defend yourself in a situation, what could happen to you if you use an illegal weapon, such as illegal gun or switchblade defending yourself?

Unfortunately, you'd probably be brought up on weapons charges, and could also be sued by your assailant- thanks ACLU!

That question assumes too many things. First, are you on trial for both possession of an unauthorized weapon and battery/assault/murder? If just for the battery, then you would face no further action at that time. The DA could then charge you with possession of the illegal weapon and try you for that another day. Self-defense is a defense to murder and or battery, so I'm guessing you are only charged with that.

Well, if the person was some psycho bent on killing you, and if you were chased, or hurt, or otherwise traumatized, I think they should just take the illegal weapon from you. Also, it depends on the weapon. Old rifle of your grandpa's that you forgot to get registered? No biggie. Fully automatic European machine gun with illegal hollow point bullets? A little different. But if someone's trying to kill you, kill them first, and sort out the legality of it later.

If you're using an illegal weapon, it's not self defense. It's assault, battery, and possibly malicious wounding; and your charges would reflect that.
