Yes, the real submission sleeper works very well. If used properly it can be used to wear your opponent down, but used improperly and you could kill someone.
I will describe it step by step but do not ever apply full pressure. We'll start with the right arm, but if you prefer the left than just substitute right with left..
- Stand behind your opponent and reach your right arm all the way around his neck as if you were trying to grab his left shoulder. Make sure that the point of your arm above the elbow (where the arm bends) is around the front of his neck squarely on the adams apple.
- Reach your left arm straight out in front of you above his left shoulder and place your right hand above your left elbow where the arm bends.
- Bend your left arm back torwards your body locking your right hand in place (which helps prevent your right arm from being pulled out by your opponent).
- Place your left hand behind your opponents head directly in the center. This provides the maximum amount of space to hold and press on.
- Now, as if you were trying to flex your muscle, squeeze his neck with your right arm and pull torwards your body while pushing forward as hard as you can with your left hand. This forces his neck to be constricted and squuezed by your right arm. Also, pushing his head forward and down with your left hand increases the pressure and causes even more restriction on the neck.
Seriously, if you're going to do this be very careful. When someone says "let me go" then let them go, this move can kill someone if it's not done the right way.

When a sleeper hold is applied ,what it does it cuts off the blood supply from the artery that goes up your neck to the brain. When this is done you loose oxygen to the brain and that is why you pass out. Its a dangerous move to attempt as per another person and it can get you a serious felony charge.

The sleeper holds in wrestling are for show only. I know there are holds that do work but I would not recommend trying them. You could really hurt someone and end up in jail if you don't know what you are doing.

Just so you know it is pain that causes you to pass out. When you apply the sleeper hold you pinch a nerve and that hurts so the pain causes you to black out

Just works like a head lock , but you re standing up .. NO , it doesn t work .. But the referee doesn t count it as a submission and it bores the hell out of the fans .

You put your arm around the neck (not too hard...make it look good) much like a headlock. Your opponent pretends to struggle and "fall asleep."
