Multiply both sides by x. (or 'cross multiply" if that's the terminology you learned.) Then collect like terms.

Everyone has the right idea...but nobody bothered explaining much- and the only answer done out has some errors.
.708=(1.591-x)/x

multiply by x on both sides like everyone else said. you'll get:

.708x=1.591-x (the x in the denominator cancels out on the right hand side of the eqn.)

Try to get the variable isolated to one side like everybody said...so move the x terms to the same side. The easiest way to do this is to add x to both sides, which gives you:
.708x+x=1.591-x+x
which simplifies to 1.708x=1.591 (because "x" is the same as "1x" so you're adding 1x and .708x.

Now just solve for x:
1.708x/1.708=1.591/1.708
x=0.9315

You can double check it:
.708=(1.591-.9315)/.9315
it comes out to .7079 because I only kept four decimal places of the answer.

Hope it helps

Did you mean to write: .708 = (1.591 - x) / x?

Because x/x = 1 regardless what x is, and 1.591 - 1 is not .708.

Like battleship said, if you meant to write .708=(1.591-x)/x... then you would times both sides by X and get
.708x=1.591x-x^2
simplify that to...
-.883x=-x^2 or .883x=x^2
divide by x and you get
.883=x

if you actually meant what you wrote, no matter what X is, it would be 1 since you hace x/x. that would make the equation false.

theres no way to solve for that... u could say thats false... depending on what the question is..
