I know a preacher who married a couple and one of them is addicted to drugs. The preacher knew this before he married them and never suggested that they go through pre-marital counseling. He did not get paid to preform the ceremony. He has said that it will not work out because one of them is an addict who refuses to get help. Was he right to marry them?

Well, he should have suggested that they get counseling, but remember, you can't make people do what is right.
He is just here to guide those who are willing to accept the help. If they don't he can not tell them not to get married. Remember people have choices and they have the right to do what they think is best for them.

There is ALWAYS the "you never know scenario" If this priest didnt marry them...some other priest would. Addicts get married every day and I'm sure some of those marriages last longer than the marriage of 2 non-addicts...ya just never know.

Sometimes the picture perfect couple don't last. Who's to say this couple won't last.
People have problems. You can't stop weddings because one of them has a problem.
How about a shopaholic? no wedding? how about a chronic Gambler? no wedding for them too? how about people with a terminal illness? no love for them also?
Who are we to judge ?

It is not his place to judge who should be married and who should not be married. If they came to him to be married he should marry them.
