I already have a wireless router, but I am getting a gaming laptop and I think wired speeds would be better for that, but my wireless router is stuck in one corner of the house, and my wireless router and modem are right next to each other. I was wondering whether I should attach the new wired router to my existing wireless router (that has 4 ethernet ports) or if I should attach it directly to my modem?

If you don't understand it, You could also put it like this: I am running out of wired ethernet ports on my wireless router. I figured that a wired router would fix that. Should I hook the new wired router up to my router (so that they will be connected to the same network) or should I attach it to my modem?

What you need to do is set up a cascade. You can only have one default gateway on any given system, but you can in fact set this up. You need to pick one to be in control. Likely this will be the wireless router as this is the one that is already set up and working, and then you need to set your secondary router to just act as a switch, and play no role in address translation. Most of these options are usually configuable through some type pf web gui. Read your manual, the default IP will be in there somehwre. Basically you want to set the thing as a switch, and let your wireless router be the router and the DG.

2 routers on the same connection cause conflicts, and may even prevent your connecting. You should either wire directly from the wireless router to the laptop, or to a network switch and that should connect to the laptop..

Get your self a prompt router with 4 ethernet connections. Then setup your modem to a bridge configuration and run each and every thing from the single router, the two prompt and under pressure.
