When I was about 17 I decided I was not going to lie about masturbation anymore, and freely admit I jerk off when ever I want to and am free to do so
I was the laughing stock of my entire school.

It's a fairly personal thing, and if you've ever seen yourself in a mirror, todger in hand and the faces you pull, it's not confidence boosting to implant that image in people's minds. Even if they probably look the same.
Then there is the religious taboo.
Myself, I love a good tug. Especially when it's a female hand....

Well i dont lie about it. If someone asks me that is close to me i will tell them that i do. If a girl what was interested in me asked me if i did i would tell her yes. And then probably ask her the same question right back.

Probably for the same reason that women do - while its a perfectly natural thing to do it's not something that is "socially acceptable" for everyday conversation.

i think its more of a stigma thing..some religions and cultures say that masturbation is wrong, evil, sinful and so on
