What can emotional walls do with our knowing [subconsciously]?

I believe so, yes. They do protect us as well.

I think a common misconception by very emotionally connected people is to judge those who express their emotions less overtly as having "emotional walls". It is more likely the case that they are still emotionally well-connected but do not feel the need to express their emotions as much as others.

I would only worry about my having emotional walls if it was effecting my relationship with someone in a negative way. I would then sit down and have a hard think in the objective light of day and try to get to the reason I might have emotional walls. THEN I would have to weigh up whether the discomfort/risk of bringing my walls down is worth doing...

sure, someone could have had a lot of hurt and pain in their
life and that can create emotional walls.
