You don't have to reformat .There are a lot of free anti virus programs on the web.One of the best is AVG. Try them.

Without a CD or floppy drive you can't reinstall windows. I would say the best you can do is do a system restore.

Go to the start button then to accessories choose system tools and you should see something called system restore. Choose a date on the calendar that you know computer was working. If your lucky things will be OK. Then go online and download AVG free so you have virus protection software.

Wait now hang on now. slow down.
If you don't have the disks, but the disk DRIVE works, just go borrow an XP disk from a fiend...um.. or a friend... as long as you have your product key, which will be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop, and you are using the same product, (xp home if you have home or pro if you have pro) you are legit. Any install disk is as good as another as long as you have your product key. It would be a good idea to download and save to a usb key the basic drivers needed to activate your network card after the install. you can usually find all the drivers you need at the manufacturers website. Get the network drivers before you reinstall so that you can get yourself online to download the rest of the drivers.

But before you go wiping your drives you might want to try to get your hands on one of the many free and powerful anti-virus products out there. I use AVG myself.

there is not any thanks to format it and not using a CD. Your laptop might want to get contaminated with some difficulty-free computer virus courses, secret agent ware courses, Use a gud virus protect... AVG loose Kaspersky kind micro those new virus guards are using in difficulty-free words a million-3 Mb memory and they are very functional.. Norton, Macafee takes 20-30Mb of memory and they don't stumble on some fo new Trojon programmes.

I would try to delete the virus, download AVG free edition and do everything you can to fix it. If that doesn't work, and you no longer have the recovery/installation disk you'll need to buy a new copy of XP.

You can go to the manufacturer's website. They will have instructions.

Most of them create an image partition on the drive. If you have not formatted your system before then it should still be there. In many systems you can get to it by pressing CTRL+F10 when the system is booting up.

Check to see if you have the Symantec system restore feature on your laptop. If it does then on startup, press F11 and it should bring you to the option screen and select system restore. This will restore your laptop back to the state it was when you first bought it, and be sure to backup all and any important files prior to restoring your laptop.

You can't. You'll have to purchase a new operating system if you don't have the discs that came with your computer. There isn't any other way to do it.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
