Some of my favorite books, hmm, well, Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is absolutely amazing--in my opinion. I also like Wuthering Heights (Bronte) and To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee).

Favorite authors? Ted Dekker, Melody Carlson, Dee Henderson--none of them really have anything in common. I have a variety of tastes.

Good luck.

It would help if you gave your age and interests, but here goes:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.

Of these, I would most recommend "A Spell for Chameleon" for the reluctant reader. It's easy to read and humorous.

Also these: http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/grtother.html#great . Lots of lists, but I especially like the Harvard Classics list - all the books that I should have read, but (mostly) never did.

Finally, these: http://www.awardannals.com/wiki/Honor_roll:Genres - pick your genre, find the best books ranked by how many awards they've won.

My favorite? "The Hobbit". However, that may be too long for someone who does not particularly enjoy reading. You would probably enjoy "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH". It's an easy read, the main character is female (guessing from your name), and it's really excellent. Better than the animated movie, if you've seen that (and the movie was pretty good).

I hope this helps.

You may like a book called Reflections by Kaze Woods. On the surface is a supernatural story, set in Detroit, but the author uses this story as his vehicle to vent his frustrations. Read his Introduction and you will understand why. Here is an example of some the author's thoughts:

I have been going to King for nearly four years. Over the course of my stay here, I have acquired a reputation that I am cold-hearted and secretive because I rarely say anything to anybody. Assumption and first impression have turned all the girls at this school against me. They only see a young man who has something against the world. How is that possible? The whole world does not know me and I do not know the whole world...

He was seventeen when he started to write this book and he finished it when he was nineteen...

A synopsis and a review can be found here if you are interested in checking it out. Kudos to the outstanding cover art...

I recommend going to a library and wondering thought the isles. See which book speaks to you. I'm sure you'll leave with a book or five :-)

My favorite book is not translated to English. It's Running along the Waves by Alexander Grin. He's most famous for Crimson Sails (which is translated), but I don't realy like it.

I enjoyed Atlas Shrugged (it's very long and the beginning is a love story but stick with it because she puts a lot of her ideas/philosophy at the end) and The Dune series if you like science fiction.
