Even if you went to a doctor, it is doubtful that he could do anything to cure your laryngitis. Unfortunately, it is somewhat like a cold--you have to let it run it's course.

However, you can try some of the following: Go into a hot, steamy shower and breathe in the steam--long, deep breaths and hold it. Another steam alternative is to boil a pan of water (turn off the flame) and put your head over the pot with a towel covering your head.

The steam will loosen up any congestion that there may be.

You can gargle with warm salt water.
You can also put an icepack on the upper part of your neck.
I've tried to gargle with toothpaste (not sure if it is just a wive's tale).

Your larynx are swollen and the goal is to bring that inflammation down. Rest your voice. If you must communicate--write you need to say down.

IF, by Monday your voice isn't back 100% you have a couple of options. You can talk to your teacher (who will automatically hear how raspy you sound and explain your dilemma) or go ahead and talk.

It's not like this is your fault or you did anything wrong by getting sick.

I'm sure that this teacher has had other such cases in his/her career. Prepare yourself for your speech.

Most importantly---rest. Nap if you must. Go to sleep earlier then usual.

Get Better.

Gingko biloba, drink it. Try some camomile tea too to soothe your throat! Some comfrey wraps around your neck and if that all fails try rinsing mouth with ebson salts. I had laryngitis last year and I used epson salts only it took a week to clear up but when I used the teas it seemed to speed the healing up. Doctor would tell you to gargle with epson salts! And drink lots of juice! I doubt if you'll be cleared of the problem by Monday but you should be able to speak.. You could do what I did when I had to go to speak on a Rehabiltation subject for Lakehead Social Planning in Ontario. I got someone to learn what I was to speak on. I took her with me to the meeting. Was able to say had laryngitis so Claudia will speak for me! Unfortunately she did such a good job she took my job there. I wound up Editor for their newspaper instead!

Try mouth washing with Hydrogen Peroxide. It is excellent for healing gums and oral problems. Just do not swallow it. I upsets my stomach. Swish and brush with a gentle toothbrush. It will absorb into the tissues and heal th area.

It is a very inexpensive solution to painful oral problems.

Good Luck.

dont try to talk it will only irritate it more, I had the same thing, trick is to keep your throat moist. drink hot tea with lots of honey and lemon as many times a day as you can stand..... throat lozenges, hard candies.... alot of water, soups..... and rest....... dont even whisper........ it puts too much strain on your vocal chords
